Machine concept

Machine Bed

  • Inherently rigid cast iron construction providing high power at lasting precision with minimised number of installation points
  • T-shaped bed with integrated X and Z feed drives
  • Axis configuration provides constant work area volume throughout the Z-axis positioning range

Column

  • Thermosymmetrically designed gantry column
  • Best design in terms of weight for superior machine dynamics
  • Nodular cast iron construction (NCI)

Guideways

  • X, Y, Z axes are designed with linear ways equipped with pre-loaded rolling elements providing:
    - No backlash, low friction, rigidity

    - High positioning accuracy of linear guideways

    - Minimum lubrication requirements

Feed drives and path measurement system

  • Direct drives designed for highest rigidity and dynamics
  • Thermosymmetrically mounted absolute measuring scales for direct path measurements

Rotary table

  • Fast NC rotary feed table 360,000x0.001° as standard
  • Alternatively, positive locking rotary indexing table 360x1° for high repeatability (optional)
  • High pallet change accuracy through fixed indexing pins

Pallet changer and workpiece setting station

  • Swivelling pallet changer reduces pallet change times
  • Location and clamping elements fully covered during the change operation
  • Manually rotated setting station with 4x90° indexing for MCH 280 C and MCH 350 C (automatically rotated setting station optional)
  • Setting station clearly arranged and easily accessible

Machining unit

  • High-precision bearings
  • All bearings are equipped with metered oil/air lubrication
  • Easy to maintain zero spindle concept, i.e. for repair purposes, only the spindle with bearings has to be replaced
  • Two-range gear box: 822 Nm, 45-6,000 min-1
  • Optional 2-range gear box with increased spindle speed: 822 Nm, 45-8,000 min-1

Tool changer

  • Fully mechanical tool change arm with double gripper
  • Minimised tool change cycle

Magazine

  • Chain-type magazine for 50 tools as standard
  • Optional chain-type magazine for 100 tools
  • Tools up to 600 mm length
  • Optional universal rack-type magazines for up to 405 tools and tool change parallel to machining via rotary station
  • Tool quantity and tool life management (control options)
  • Variable place coding for maximum space utilisation and shortest tool-to-tool times or alternatively fixed place coding

Coolant unit and chip disposal

  • Standard coolant unit without disposable filter fleece (mesh-type filter 350 µm and vacuum rotation filter 40 µm)
  • Available with several extensions including:
    - Installation of the complete coolant unit behind machine

    - Multiple pressure steps for internal coolant supply through spindle (up to 70 bar)

    - Higher coolant quantity

    - Coolant cooler

    - Central connection for automatic operation
  • Efficient chip disposal via steep chip chutes in the machine bed and two chip conveyors on each side of the Z-axis

Control

  • Full range of functions of state-of-the-art Siemens 840 D control
  • Comprehensive range of functions for FMS Control based on HELLER process control technology
  • Additional proprietary HELLER developments enhancing flexibility and functionality
    - Tool data administration

    - Pallet/workpiece table for assignment of NC programs to pallets and setups

    - Integrated process monitoring for identifying errors in the machining process

    - Preventative maintenance

    - Spindle power and feed force display

    - Selection and display screens

System solutions for top productivity

  • Flexible manufacturing cell = machine + pallet pool
    - Loading independent of machining cycle

    - Workpiece swing area on all storage places

    - Accessibility of pallet pools via maintenance doors

    - Job management via the machine control

    - 4-position rotary pallet pool = a total of 6 pallets in the system

    - 8-position linear pallet pool (extension) = a total of 10 pallets in the system

  • Flexible manufacturing systems = machines + automation
    - HELLER machining centres are ideal for integration into flexible manufacturing systems.

    - The machining centres are ready for linear linkage, robot loading and overhead transfer

    - Optional loading to setting station or directly onto the rotary table is possible
