At METAV 2012, HELLER will be demonstrating how to machine a wide range of parts and materials at highest flexibility and productivity in continuous operation by example of their 5-axis machining centre model FT 4000 equipped with swivel-head unit and Heidenhain control iTNC530. The goal is to prove that universality and productivity are not exclusive of each other.
The FT 4000 could be considered a classic workshop machine with manual table loading. However, thanks to the design and accessibility of the work area the machine is suited for a wide range of parts from different materials. Especially since the work area is amply dimensioned with 630 mm in the X and Y axis and 830 mm in the Z axis and can handle workpiece weights up to 1400 kg. With the FT 4000, HELLER also proves how to achieve a higher level of process dependability in 5-axis machining in the future. The machine combines an outstanding surface finish with highest cutting capacity. Instead of seeking to achieve theoretical record values, the FT 4000 is about practice-oriented dynamic values, longevity, high precision and availability. Accordingly, the axis drives of the F series have been amply dimensioned. The machine structure and axis design have been tailored to the requirements of 5-axis machining.
However, 5-axis machining holds great potential for process optimisation anyway. When the milling cutter is engaged, for instance, using tools with a reduced throat depth becomes possible. As a result, machining times are shorter and the surface finish is improved due to a reduced susceptibility to vibration. Peripheral milling or face milling of sculptured surfaces provide further potential. Instead of highly dynamic milling at low feed rates, HELLER's machine is capable of machining at high feed rates. At the same time, the machine provides highest dynamics and precision.
The universality and flexibility of the spindle technology are cutting edge. The Speed Cutting Universal SCU 63 swivel head with 40 kW and the Speed Cutting Tilt SCT 63 fork head, also with 40 kW, are available for speed cutting. The Power Cutting Universal PCU 63 swivel head with 44 kW and 242 Nm is the most powerful 5-axis spindle with HSK 63 currently available on the market and an excellent choice for highly productive 5-axis heavy-duty cutting applications.
5-axis machining has high demands in terms of interpolation and block processing speed of the machine control. Both, Siemens Sinumerik 840Dsl as well as Heidenhain iTNC530 presented at EMO provide the necessary performance. Both controls enable 5-axis interpolation from CAD data to the machine and offer easy operation.
HELLER F series in focus
The machines are available with table loading (FT) and pallet changer (FP) in two different work area sizes (F 2000/F 4000). 54 storage places inside the magazine are standard. Absolute precision in the µm range is provided by absolute encoded, direct measuring systems, high-resolution rotary encoders and YRT bearings with integrated measuring system. The proven 5-axis kinematics provided by the tool in X, Y, C or A and two axes provided by the workpiece in the Z and B axis offer combined precision and dynamics.
